The Pile is the second piece of the ‘Selfless’ triptych. The collection is a grisaille series of self-portraits without the depiction of oneself. The Pile is a stack of bangles, bracelets, necklaces, and rings; it is a selection of jewellery owned by the artist. The jewellery is an extension of the artist’s identity, and the sparkling gems are symbols of his persona. Without his physical self, viewers immediately learn of this facet of his personality. His identity is revealed in the winking diamonds embedded in the canvas.
