The Palette is the final and centrepiece of ‘Selfless’: a grisaille triptych depicting a series of self-portraits without the depiction of self. The Palette is technically not a painting, but rather, the panel used as a palette for the two previous pieces. Using a strict and confined colour scheme, these grisaille colours only express a singular portion of the artist’s persona in every instance. In this particular version, the Palette is the hurried and dynamic force existing inside the artist’s mind. The artist’s personality and psyche are revealed through the strokes blurring the surface of the palette.
